Hasanuddin
University in collaboration with Charles Darwin University (CDU),
Australia will hold an international symposium "Wallace Darwin Science
Symposium" with the main theme "Understanding and Sustaining the
Biodiversity and Ecosystems for Human Well-Being". The event will take place on 4 to 5 September 2012 in Baruga APPettarani and Prof. Auditorium. A. Amiruddin Unhas.
Wallace
Darwin Science Symposium is a unique symposium that was held for the
first time with the main objective to revive the spirit of science and
provide insight into the existence of human nature and the ecosystem in
which a part of it.Director of Research and Development Centre for Marine, Coastal and Small Island Unhas, Prof. Jamaluddin
Jompa, Ph.D. explains that this symposium will discuss the
sustainability of ecosystems for the benefit of humankind, that is
universal and multi-disciplinary.
"Anyone
from a variety of backgrounds are expected to attend the symposium and
not just among researchers or who have a background in science
education" she pointed out.The symposium will dihadari Unhas Rector, Prof. Dr.dr. K.
A.Paturusi and Vice Chancellor of CDU, Professor Barney Glover and
President of the Academy of Sciences of Indonesia (AIPI) Prof. Dr. Sangkot Marzuki. Plenary will be opened by prof. Michael Morwood, Archaeologist of the Charles Darwin University, Dr. John Wyhe, Historian of the National University Of Singapore, Prof. Bob Pressey, conservation planner from James Cook University, Australia, and Dr. David Smith, a coral reef biologist, from the University of Essex, United Kingdom.
Besides this symposium will also mengahdirkan speaker of the CDU Professor Karen Edyvane and several other speakers.Apart
from the research symposium will also be attended by educators, policy
makers, industry leaders, and civil society are also expected to discuss
and develop research partnerships with regional and international
levels to create a better understanding for the sustainability of
social-ecological systems in the Wallacea region where several Sulawesi region of Indonesia, including Wallacea also crossed the line.

Acara ini akan berlangsung pada 4 hingga 5 September 2012 mendatang di
Baruga A.P.Pettarani dan Auditorium Prof. A. Amiruddin Unhas.
Wallace Darwin Science Symposium ini merupakan sebuah
simposium unik yang baru pertama kali diadakan dengan tujuan utama untuk
menghidupkan spirit sains dan memberikan pemahaman mengenai keberadaan
alam dan ekosistem dimana manusia menjadi bagian di dalamnya.
Direktur Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan untuk Laut, Pantai dan Pulau
Kecil Unhas, Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa, Ph.D menjelaskan bahwa simposium
ini akan membahas mengenai keberlanjutan ekosistem demi kesejahteraan
umat manusia, sehingga sifatnya universal dan multi disiplin. “Siapapun dari berbagai latar belakang diharapkan menghadiri simposium
ini jadi bukan hanya kalangan peneliti atau yang memiliki latar
belakang pendidikan sains”Ungkapnya.
Simposium ini akan dihadari oleh Rektor Unhas, Prof. Dr.dr. Idrus
A.Paturusi dan Vice Chancellor of CDU, Professor Barney Glover serta
Presiden Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (AIPI)Prof. Dr. Sangkot
Marzuki. Pleno akan dibuka oleh Prof. Michael Morwood, Arkeolog dari Charles
Darwin University, Dr. John Wyhe, Sejarawan dari National University Of
Singapore, Prof. Bob Pressey, conservation planner dari James Cook
University, Australia, dan Dr. David Smith, coral reef biologist, dari
University Of Essex, United Kingdom. Selain itu simposium ini juga akan
mengahdirkan pembicara dari CDU Professor Karen Edyvane serta beberapa
pembicara lainnya.
Selain dari kalangan peneliti simposium ini juga akan dihadiri oleh
kalangan pendidik, penentu kebijakan, pemimpin industry dan juga
diharapkan masyarakat sipil untuk berdiskusi bersama dan membangun
kemitraan penelitian regional dan internasional untuk menciptakan
pemahaman yang lebih baik demi keberlanjutan sistem sosial-ekologi di
wilayah Wallacea dimana beberapa wilayah di Indonesia termasuk Sulawesi
juga dilewati garis Wallacea.
